We’re Starr and CJ, partners in life for 17 years, and Calypso is a reflection of the life we’ve built together: rooted in friendship, care, and a deep respect for the people who sit in our chairs. Inspired by the goddess of power and beauty, the name Calypso represents presence, confidence, and quiet strength. 

To us, beauty is an experience—one shaped by how you’re welcomed, how carefully you’re listened to, and how thoughtfully your service is crafted.

CJ brings over 15 years of experience in behavioral and mental health, shaping an approach grounded in attentiveness and intention. 

His consultations are unhurried and precise, allowing space for genuine conversation and results that feel considered and personal.

Starr’s path into the beauty industry was guided by the same desire to care for others. Originally pursuing nursing, she discovered that while her calling was rooted in helping people, that path would unfold differently. Choosing to return to school for cosmetology, Starr found a way to offer care through artistry, presence, and transformation.

She believes beauty services hold a quiet power—you never know what someone is carrying when they arrive, but a single appointment can restore confidence, elevate spirit, and create a sense of empowerment that extends far beyond the salon.

Calypso was  created as a true salon home—for our team and for the artists who grow within our walls. We celebrate diversity, encourage creativity, and cultivate a culture built on respect, collaboration, and positivity. It’s a space designed to feel welcoming the moment you walk through the door.
